About Rapid Repair Specialists

In 2009 I purchased Dornwell Panel and Paint from Dave Hatch who founded the business in 1970. I had a small team that included my wife Esta working for the company. Our goal was simple, to provide good work and exceptional customer service.

I have a great team of people who I’ve built my business around and over the years we’ve had more great people join our team and embrace our culture.

When I started out my 2 boys Tyran and Zane were in Primary school and our youngest daughter, Maeya was still in nappies. Tyran is now in his final year of secondary school and looking to start university next year and the other 2 are well into their schooling years. Time goes by quickly when you're in business, so it is important to make the most of what you doing now and remember to smell the roses, every now and then.

In the beginning, we had many challenges to overcome and after a slow few years, we eventually started to see the gains from the hard work we had been putting in. It got to the point where we were consistently struggling to lock up cars at the end of the day.

By late 2016 I began looking for ways to best utilize the space we were currently occupying in order to achieve a higher output of vehicles per week. I wanted to do this without having to relocate the business or increase the size of our building, which would be an extremely costly exercise to do in the current Auckland property market.

This challenge led me back to Govinda Hu from Theromflow Spraybooth Systems. He was able to design and install a new paint shop facility based on working lean with Rapid Repair technology.

During this time we also upgraded our Panel shop to a 350 sqm workshop in order to cope with structural repairs and larger damaged vehicles. The old panel shop has been transformed into a Rapid Repair Centre which consists of a semi-automatic infrared drying arc, 2 prep bays and 2 booths that have the ability to reach optimum temperature very quickly.

The final part of our renovation was re-locating our main office next door, to what was previously a showroom for a commercial glazing company. From this new location, we’ve been able to enhance the customer experience by improving the surroundings in which we work in.

For peace of mind, our workshop consists of a Car-O-liner Speed machine for the minor structural repairs, a Car-O-liner Quick42 with Car-O-Tronic 3D measuring system for highly technical structural repairs.

We specialise in all types of repairs, from insurance to private work and also specialising in rental car fleet repairs and end of lease refurbishing.

Our staff are highly trained with ongoing courses through I-Car New Zealand.

Spraypainting

We have installed a thermoFLo Smart Refinishing Centre complete with a Rapid Cure Electric Powered Semi Automatic IR arch (one of only 7 in the country).

At Rapid Repair Specialists "We've gone Green"using PPG Envirobase Paint to restore your vehicle to their original OEM finish. This is part of our commitment to ensuring we are protecting our environment and the health and wellbeing of our staff.

The Rapid repair Centre consists of a two-vehicle prep bay, complete with the IR arch, facing two spray booths that are capable of reaching operating temperature in three minutes to 60 degrees. On each side of the prep-bays are fully enclosed storage stations containing everything that is required including the vacuum system, two retractable air hoses, power outlets and storage cabinets. The spray booths and prep bays are operated individually by touchscreens.

Do I have the right to take my vehicle to a panel beater of my choice?

Don’t be confused by misleading advice. It’s your vehicle and you should have the right to choose your own panel beater. Ensure that Rapid Repair Specialists, 56-58 Dornwell Rd, Mt Roskill, is written on your tow docket.

Do I need to contact more than one panel beater for an estimate?

No, generally one estimate from a panel beater of your choice is all that is required unless your insurance policy clearly specifies otherwise. Rapid Repair Specialists is an approved repair centre for major insurance companies.

How long will the repair take?

That depends on the extent of the damage. We can give you an approximate repair time when we inspect your vehicle.

In some cases, your vehicle will require some disassembly of the damaged component in order to accurately establish the extent of damage and or the time required to reinstate.

What information should I bring to Rapid Repair Specialists?

The name of your insurance company and claim number. Rapid Repair Specialists can assist with paperwork and claim lodgment to make the process as hassle-free as possible.

Do you provide a loan vehicle?

We have loan vehicles available by appointment for a small admin fee of $34.50(incl gst), to help you keep you on the road while your own car is being repaired.
